A grand total of over £350 was raised after a busy morning, serving the Big Breakfast. Our thanks to all those who attended and especially our servers and cooks. Both our toilets are now twinned with the toilet twinning charity who have sent us our certificates. So next time you go to the loo take your google maps with you on the phone and look up our twin loo!
We have collected together all the ring pulls we have been collecting over the past year ready to send off for forwarding to the Purple Community Fund. A lovely large box is being delivered this week as its too heavy to post.
Peter Tonks lead our family morning service celebrating the JMA collectors. Our thirteen collectors have raised a total of £117.70. Thanks to our collectors Sophie, Ella, Xavier, Ruby, Frank, Layla, Cameron, Noah, Edie, Harriet, James, Charlotte and James.
Although a few regular faces were missing, the morning was quite busy. It was in aid of Alzheimer's Society and around £114 was raised, which was very good. Pauline and Teresa talked in detail about the trials and tribulations of living with someone who has the disease and the devastating effect if can have on families. Valerie and Christine have been knitting some 'Twiddle Muffs' which help people to have something to do with their hands. Pictured below these are normally sent to 'Knit for Peace' in London but they brought a few along for this morning. Users play with the beads and buttons inside and outside of the muffs, and it helps to relax them.
As usual Vince, Malcolm and Colin were on hand to help with the washing up! It was a good move to leave the Lent Water Aid collecting jar in the chapel for some extra days after Easter...only half full on Easter Day it was magically full to the brim this Sunday morning thanks to some generous last minute contributions! All those coppers and other small coins reached the splendid total of £70 which will be sent off to Water Aid, helping to provide clean drinking water to some of the poorest communities in the world. That is our best Lent total to date, so well done to all! We thank the brave souls who came out today in sub zero temperatures to support our coffee morning in aid of Tommy’s charity. We raised a healthy £85 in spite of the fact that quite a few of our regulars were snowed in! Lots of chat about the weather of course - we are British after all! - and interestingly woolly scarves were amongst the first prizes to be snapped up from the raffle table! We were reminded about the Women’s World Day of Prayer which takes place tomorrow evening at 7pm, and hoping that the weather will allow people to attend. Forty eight shoe boxes were delivered to the Samaritans purse. Thank you to all who have assembled a box for deprived children in the Middle East.
