The final count up of cash and cheques donated for Christian Aid 2021 from the villages realised the fantastic total of £743.16. Additional Gift Aid contributions will have added approximately £100 more onto this total. Bearing in mind that there could be no house to house collections this year and that donations all had to be ‘dropped off’ this was a superb result. Many thanks to all those who contributed so generously to Christian Aid this year and to Station Stores and the local pubs who helped us with the ‘drop off’ locations.
Our Lent Collection for Water Aid has been counted and raised a magnificent £70 this year. A superb result considering the lower number of services and pandemic. Many thanks to all who have supported this appeal.
Our Nativity scene was window 24 on the village trail and more socially distanced carol singing raised over £125 for Alzheimers charity. A good number of visitors came to listen and join in with the groups of choir singing from the church grounds on what proved to be a chilled but dry evening unlike the rain yesterday!
We gathered to sing some socially distanced carols on the grass in front of the church, beside the nativity scene. Two different groups of singers were distanced from each other for this and the singing was accompanied by Jill, our choir conductor. Quite a number of different people came to join in with the choir from the pavement. £47 was raised for Alzheimer’s society; mental health being at the forefront of people’s minds this year. With hurricane Ciara hitting the shores there was a limited attendance to church. However a number of us made it and the presentations went ahead to three of our collectors. Our thirteen collectors raised £130 in 2019 - thank you.
Really lovely evening. Everybody joining in with singing and Brian’s humour creating laughs. He sang a tribute to Mavis, who loved these evenings and ended the event with Christmas carols and festive songs. A total of £195 was made for church funds.
Twenty two shoeboxes were taken to the midland collection point for the charity "Link to Hope" These were checked over and along with a further extra £30 in donations will ensure that the boxes make their way to Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.
Around 300 people visited the gardens in Whitacre. Saturday made £644.50 and Sunday raised nearly triple that amount raising £1780.50. The grand total of £2425 will be split between Air Ambulance and our local Methodist Church.
Thanks are due to our gardeners, our cake makers, and stewards who all contributed to the grand result. We could not have asked for better weather. A lovely sunny weekend allowed many to enjoy the twelve or more gardens open to view. Refreshments sold well with a wide range of cakes. Did you buy a plant to take home? We thank all those who opened their gardens and helps their visitors. Can you spot the houses these flowers were seen in? Brian came and sang for us and the concert was a big success raising a total of £180 to church funds. Thank you to all who attended enjoying a splendid evening and especially to Brian for entertaining us again.
