Pauline led our service for Mothering Sunday with help from reader including Lynda and Ruby. We had a history lesson of how Julia Ward Howe began the fight for Mothers Day taken through to its successful adoption by Anna Jarvis. Find out more here. We were reminded of mothers in history such as a WW2 Polish lady Irena Sendler, who helped over 2500 Jewish children to escape and of course the Virgin Mary. Thoughts for all Mothers, Grandmothers and those unable to have children were close in our minds. All Mums were then presented with a primula flower in a pot and we retired to a lovely cake and tea in the schoolroom.
A well attended service with the service sheet prepared by the women of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. "I know the plans I have for you" was led by Fiona Bennet as the main speaker supported by a number of other women readers who lit seven candles during the service. The choir also led the singing with a lovely descant in the last hymn "The day thou gavest, Lord, has ended" After the service tea and cake with sausage rolls and biscuits were enjoyed.
