Linda said a few words to everyone about the charity and how they reach out to help families who are facing any kind of crisis; from telephone 'befriending' to hosting event days and weekends. Stewart and Linda have had first hand experience of the support and encouragement they can offer when they attended a residential weekend some months after Thomas died. They were in the company of many other bereaved parents and far from being a gloomy occasion it was safe and uplifting and gave them hope that they could begin to feel some happiness again. They have continued to support the charity since and suggested that this coffee morning should raise funds for the charity. Today £100 was raised for 'Care for the Family'.
Not quite so many at today's coffee morning for 'Care for the Family' - some people are still away on their holidays - but plenty of summer chatter amongst those there fuelled by a delicious supply of homemade biscuits and cakes courtesy of master chef Fiona!

Although it got off to a slow start the room soon filled up and Kian our very own rehomed greyhound was there to show how gentle and loving these dogs can be. Although he found it a bit difficult to negotiate the slippery floor of the room he had his own special selection of carpets to settle down on.
Our numbers were swelled by choir members who joined as for a quick rehearsal in the chapel before leaving for St Giles to join in the funeral service of a long standing Whitacre resident, Ellen Coningsby. Despite being a nice sunny day, people away and on their holidays did seem to hit attendance a little but with some nice cakes and the added attraction of the dog, we still raised £100. |
