A well attended service with the service sheet prepared by the women of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. "I know the plans I have for you" was led by Fiona Bennet as the main speaker supported by a number of other women readers who lit seven candles during the service. The choir also led the singing with a lovely descant in the last hymn "The day thou gavest, Lord, has ended" After the service tea and cake with sausage rolls and biscuits were enjoyed. Mike and Anne led our service today looking towards the start of Lent. All were given a little bag which will remind us of things we can do or give up over the period. A reminder of the Sun being in our lives giving us much to be thankful for. The bag we could put our money in for our Water Aid lent collection and if we are planning to give up chocolate then we only have a few days to devour the chocolate included. Remember we have our Wednesday evening Lent studies starting Ash Wednesday too.
Todays service was led by Rev Nick Jones who was celebrating Holy Communion with us. Much talk of his recent promotion to being superintendent of Sutton Circuit was made as well as celebrating Carols birthday with cake afterwards.
Todays service led by Jean and John focused on Jesus and his love. Mention was also made of how something for nothing is not a reality and how commitment and work to both relationships and love is needed. Afterwards tea and special heart cakes were enjoyed along with the discussion around the hymns sung today and the Welsh success at the rugby yesterday much to Jeans pleasure.
Our service today lead by Jackie was about love and included a small token to take away with us. Today was also the last service which Linda and Stuart could attend before moving house to a new area to be nearer their family. A card and cake were presented and the later was enjoyed by all after the service with tea and coffee. We wish them both well in their new life chapter even if we shall miss her plastic laminating service too! Linda led us in a service which looked at freedoms mentioning both our own personal abilities to roam, even with the covid restrictions and areas such as Nigeria where Christians are persecuted openly. We recited the Psalm of David (psalm 29) and this related neatly to Linda recounting the story of how Michelangelo's statue of David was carved from a block of marble, which had been hewn over 40 years previous. After many artists failing to be inspired enough to carve the block Michelangelo described his work of David as releasing the "angel from within". The freedom of the birds was used to symbolise Gods power and Linda presented all the congregation with a bird of their own complete with a bible verse.
The children and young people enjoyed making (and eating some) Christingles which were lit once they had returned to the carol service. Once again the chapel was lit by candle light and we wish you all a Happy Christmas.
Fiona came to preach today and reminded us about the signs we see. From the humble road signs to information giving notices surely none have been so important as Gods Star which showed the world where his Son was born in Bethlehem and guided in both the Shepherds and the Three Wise Men of the Orient. We were reminded of this with some lovely chocolate coins mounted on hand made stars as well as the almost complete external tableau which is now on view from the road outside reminding passers by of the signs of Christmas complete with its own star.
Our Remembrance service was lead by Pauline and had many who contributed to the service. A range of people laid poppies on the alter, the church was beautifully decorated and even the post service cakes had poppy cases.
Our congregation seems to have a number of November birthdays to celebrate and today we all gathered to sing Beryl a "Happy 90th Birthday" with a cake to add to our after service tea and coffee.
