Fiona led our worship but the service was dramatized by some of the open the book team who presented Jesus and the Palm Sunday story complete with a donkey. Fortunately the group do not work with animals so the beast was well behaved! The open the book team were back today - this time the story was the storm on Lake Galilee. The disciples woke Jesus up as they feared they would drown and he calmed the wind and waves. This year the theme of the service is based on Ephesians 1:15-19. The choir led the singing. Within the service with a number of ladies took turns to read from the written elements by the Taiwanese women. Fiona made a melt in the mouth pineapple cake of Taiwanese origin recipe. The choir sang and prayers were said and £104.50 raised for WDP.
Vince was our ever brilliant quiz master both posing and delivering the questions. With rounds on food and drink as well as a literacy round (which was a stinker!) Many thanks to all those who came and supported the quiz, our washing up team and of course Vince as we raised £208 for the chapel.
This month it was the turn of the Roman Centurion to introduce the children to Jesus through the story of his servant who was ill. The Centurion could order people about but showed his trust in believing that Jesus can just command his servant to get well. Our little soldier helpers were the first to have speaking parts.
A lovely day for the February coffee morning and a chance to catch up with old friends. We collected £102 for the Chapel and enjoyed a good natter.
Our open the book team went into Shustoke school. The story centred on the friends who lowered the lame man through the roof of a house in order for him to get close enough to Jesus to be healed. Getting the lame man down from the roof proved a challenge to the group using a washing airer and a dummy which was exchanged for the live lame man later on; the children joined in as "the crowd" to support the group - thank you.
Several people were away today but we still collected £125 for Sightsavers and had a good laugh with friends. Jane and Carol worked hard and there were some great raffle prizes. Perhaps they were unwanted Christmas gifts? Anyway they went to new homes. We had a visitor from Warm Hubs at Warwickshire and she enjoyed herself and approved the premises. We have received a grant from them towards the heating and will also be opening up the school room on the 3rd Thursday afternoon of each month, as a place for everyone to meet, chat and eat. Save on your heating and come to us. You can read or play many games together.
Our second annual Christingle service was led once again by our own Rev Nick Jones. A good gathering of young (and young at heart) people made their own Christingles and Nick explained how a little about the history of the how the Christingle came to us via the Victorians and the Moravian church from whose history it originates. For those who want more of the history do read the linked document below. Tea and coffee was shared afterwards with many wishes of a Happy Christmas being shared to all.
